It's a slow news day and I'm tired from not having AC during the wee hours. (It was just a bad circuit breaker. Hooray!) As Austin Powers once said, "I am spent."

So I'll do a random meme, courtesy of bloglines, which sent me to this blog, where a self-described "mad fabri-holic" listed seven possibly interesting things about herself.

So, here we go: Seven possibly interesting things about me.

  1. I have been on television twice. As a child, I appeared on the local news taking a slide at a local park. As an adult, I once again made the local news, where I said, in effect, that if Social Security were privately-run, its managers would have been convicted of fraud long ago.
  2. I have a Cherokee ancestor named "Little Panther".
  3. I lived in Texas, which shares an extensive land and water border with Mexico for over twenty years -- but had never been to Mexico until last year, when our cruise ship stopped at Cozumel!
  4. During graduate school, some people thought I was from Louisiana because of the animal I studied. I am not. However, my wife is -- but some people think she's British because of her accent and fair complexion!
  5. When I was a kid, one of my favorite pastimes was making fictitious maps.
  6. During college, I participated in a Call of Cthulhu role-playing game. I ended up hating it since by the time your character acquired any power or knowledge, he either got killed or wound up in an asylum!
  7. Right after high school graduation, a friend and I snuck into a jacuzzi at a local hotel. Not long afterwards, two really cute girls about our age got in and started talking with us. Then, suddenly, they got really odd expressions on their faces. The conversation abruptly ended. The girls left. My friend got out of the jacuzzi and began laughing so hard he balled up into a fetal position. Then I looked down and saw the common denominator between the sudden flight of the chicks and the intense mirth.... Damn! Another nosebleed!
I never tag people, but feel free to leave your seven in the comments or on your own blog. If the backlinks don't automatically show up during the next day, email me and I'll throw in a link to yours here.

Dude, Call of Cthulhu is based on H.P. Lovecraft's novels of gothic horror. You're SUPPOSED to get killed or go insane. Granted the reason why this is supposed to be fun escapes me.

If you want something even weirder, play Deadlands: it's Call of Cthulhu meets The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. The blurb on the back of the players' guide calls it "The Spaghetti Western . . . with meat."

My character's main accomplishment in that game was not dying for over a year. Oh, and I think I shot a giant crocodile in the eye with a Winchester '76 rifle.

I'd better shut up, there's nothing in the universe more boring than Dumb Gaming Stories.

Yeah, yeah, I know. Credit naivete: I'd only played D&D up until that point, and was not yet familiar with Lovecraft. (If you have a dark sense of humor, you'll enjoy the end of this, which is my favorite Lovecraft short story.)

I'll see your short "dumb gaming story" and raise you one. The game master of Call of Cthulhu had a reputation for being a sadistic GM. In D&D, when he wasn't the DM, he invariably played proselytizing clerics.

He has since gone on to combine the best of both fantasy worlds: He has become a priest who trains other priests. I almost pity his students!

Rational Jenn also did one of these on her blog :) It's weird to run across someone very similar to myself.

Yes! I noticed that. If I were a better meme-starter, I'd suggest it as a good, more informal way, for the folks on the OList to get to know each other.
