(Otherwise, I THINK he'd have been OK on grounds of probable cause to arrest Gates, not knowing who he was.)

It would have been interesting to know what my Dad would have had to say about this...Gus Van Hornhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05126749051688217781noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8839412.post-60602345812860296192009-07-29T18:06:29.256-06:002009-07-29T18:06:29.256-06:00Devil's advocate here, I'm considering the...Devil's advocate here, I'm considering the case where it would be right to arrest the old man. This is flimsy at best but look at it this way: Crowley still may not be sure a crime is NOT being committed. As most teenagers know, when you're caught doing something wrong, get angry. Coming home past curfew? Don't come sheepishly, barge in, slam the door. "Stupid...jeeze. Bobby man, I'll kill him. I'm so mad! Had me waiting all night! GOD!!" Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Now back to Gates. Crowley didn't see him on the sidewalk, stop the car, pat him down. He responded to a possible b&e. Theres a man there who has ID for the house, but is he the man in the photo? Is he the estranged husband of a woman who is unconscious in the basement? All he knows is the man works at Harvard, has an ID for the address, and wants him out of the house, PRONTO! Old man, cane or no cane, could be breaking into a house he used to live in, to steal something or hurt someone.znoreply@blogger.com
