The...I think they are becoming more authoritarian.<br /><br />They're either feeling desperate or feeling safe, with their man in the White House and both houses of Congress. The end result would be the same, as far as that goes.<br /><br />Or maybe both at times, too. Recall that George Bush (like all non-leftist Southerners) was both diabolically clever AND dumb as a stump, and sometimes one or the other, depending on the context. Maybe whether they're feeling safe or desperate (or both) is a little like how they felt about the younger Bush.<br /><br />OT: This reminds me of an account of a crazy-looking prop pilot I heard about over the weekend who was attempting a tricky landing. Regardless, the authoritarian endgame was only a matter of time.
