Pope Solidly Behind Cardinal Law

Monday, June 06, 2005

Pope Benedict "the Baked" XVI, who has already demonstrated his concern for the healthy psychological development of children by condemning the Harry Potter series, burnished his credentials as a social critic by condemning the idea of gay marriage.

Behold the laundry list of sexual practices and living arrangements between consenting adults that Pope Benedict XVI condemned today:

The Pope ... condemned divorce, artificial birth control, trial marriages and free-style unions, saying all of these practices were dangerous for the family.

"Today's various forms of dissolution of marriage, free unions, trial marriages as well as the pseudo-matrimonies between people of the same sex are instead expressions of anarchic freedom which falsely tries to pass itself off as the true liberation of man."

The only game in town, by Benedict's lights, would be procreative sex between married adults.

Interestingly, pedophilia remains an option for the clergy, judging by the fact that Bernard Cardinal Law still resides in Rome under the protection of His Holiness, and so enjoys full diplomatic immunity from prosecution in the United States for his enabling role in the sexual abuse scandal in Boston.

Bad jokes like His Holiness aside, is it any wonder that the Roman Catholic Church is waning as a cultural force when we are to heed such inane moral pronouncements while someone like Cardinal Law is sheltered from justice for facilitating unimaginable depravity on such a wide scale?

Try again, Benny.
