Yes. Dust.

Tuesday, August 03, 2010

The EPA is getting ready to regulate the dust raised by agricultural activity, just in case any tractors are still moving after it clamps down on another naturally-occurring substance, carbon dioxide.

The letter [PDF --ed] dated July 23 to the EPA states, "If approved, would establish the most stringent and unparalleled regulation of dust in our nation's history." It further states, "We respect efforts for a clean and healthy environment, but not at the expense of common sense. These identified levels will be extremely burdensome for farmers and livestock producers to attain. Whether its livestock kicking up dust, soybeans being combined on a dry day in the fall, or driving a car down the gravel road, dust is a naturally occurring event." [link added]
The Republicans won't rid of of the EPA any time soon, but there is hope for an effort on the part of Lisa Murkowski to bar "the EPA from regulating emissions from stationary sources" might be revived should they win the Senate in November. Perhaps that would apply to this hare-brained scheme as well.

Personally, I'm much more worried about our national lint problem.

If bed bug infestation of Manhattan's Victoria Secret and all manner of that city's hotels is not an EPA crisis, perhaps the TSA can better deal with it as another case for immigration reform.

Some inbound foreign passengers to the Big Apple need microscopic screening and no doubt pesticidal propylaxsis.

Vigilis,

Someone on a mailing list I subscribe to speculated that EPA regulations that, say might keep hotels from using water hot enough to kill the bugs, or that prevent them from using effective insecticides, for example, might be a prime culprit in the reemergence of these pests.

We need the EPA like we need another hole in our heads. Get it (and the rest of the nanny state) out of the way and I'm sure some enterprising soul would find a way to (re-)lick this problem.

What they need to start regulating is the toxic amount of bullshit emminating from Washington.

"They" are "we," the voting public.

We should demand nothing less than the phasing out and eventual complete repeal of the welfare/regulatory state.
