Four Wins

A Friday Hodgepodge

Whenever possible, I list three wins at the end of each day. Here are a few from a recent review of my planner.

***

1. I needed to find a presentation I created for a job interview from long-enough ago that it predated the nifty system I created for project tracking -- which would ordinarily allow me to find something like that within a minute or two.

And then I remembered that my practice of saving old planners predated even that.

Finding the date of the interview by searching the old planners gave me enough information to figure out where I squirreled away that presentation in not too long. (And it enabled me to assimilate that and all the related information retroactively into the existing system.)

Hooray for being what I call organized enough!

2. There is nothing like cleaning up ahead of a visit by the in-laws to jolt the cleaning and moving-in routines back into place.

And, yes, sometimes the contrast between letting things go a bit and the end result provides additional motivation to keep things going.

3. Unknown to me, my car battery was about to die, when a cooler-than usual morning saw me unable to start my car ahead of getting my flu and covid shots.

I knew from my walking routine that I could get to the drugstore on foot in plenty of time, so I did that. Since I was planning on lunch out that day, I did that on foot, too.

It was warmer by the time I got home, so I tried, successfully this time, to start the car, and was able to get that taken care of.

Even casually-acquired knowledge can come to the rescue. I was able to stick to my original plan, avoid a bunch of annoying phone calls, and have the pleasant morning I had planned to give myself for my birthday.

In fact, now that I think about it, it was much more enjoyable to do all of this as part of a walk.

4. Speaking of birthdays, my wife and kids outdid themselves this year. I am hard to buy gifts for, and all I could come up with was an Eberechi Eze Arsenal away jersey (which I wasn't even sure would be available).

I got that, and they also surprised me with an Arsenal bottle stopper and an Arsenal coffee mug, which I'm using right now.

As a nice bonus, Arsenal spared us the Trump tariffs.
